Conception Bay South

Kelligrews community guide

Get to know Kelligrews through its river, pond and Gateway Trail, with local recreation landmarks in Conception Bay South.

Avalon Peninsula
Newfoundland & Labrador

Kelligrews has a river-and-pond landscape to explore beyond Conception Bay Highway. The Town's Gateway Trail guide follows Kelligrews River to Kelligrews Pond, where a boardwalk, interpretive panels and an outdoor classroom provide places to stop and learn about the waterway. Gateway Trail guide

The river route, the recreation spaces on Red Bridge Road and the Gateway Community Garden give useful starting points for getting to know the area. Our Conception Bay South overview places Kelligrews alongside the town's other communities.

Choosing a route on the Gateway Trail

The Town lists the Kiwanis Club at 925 Conception Bay Highway as a Gateway Trail access location. Its route description includes Sgt. Thomas Ricketts Peace Park and the community garden before returning to the T'Railway. The river, park and former railway corridor offer different parts of a walk rather than one interchangeable destination. Town trail information

Choose the part you want to use, then follow the connection from the home's entrance. Check where the route joins a road, where you would turn back and the condition of the approach. A listing's reference to the Gateway Trail is more helpful when it identifies an actual access point; proximity alone does not establish access through a neighbour's land.

Sgt. Ned Nugent's Park on Red Bridge Road

Sgt. Ned Nugent's Park is at 176 Red Bridge Road. The Town's dedicated park page lists soccer, softball and rugby fields, a playground, skate park and dog park, along with a picnic area. That makes it a useful recreation landmark whether you are looking for a place to play, meet others or walk a dog. Sgt. Ned Nugent's Park

Check the particular facility or activity you intend to use. A field can host an organized event, while a visit to the playground or dog park is a different plan. If you are viewing a rental, try its actual route to the park and identify the entrance rather than assuming that a nearby field is directly accessible from the residential street.

For a tenant bringing a pet, the dog park and the home's pet arrangements are separate questions. Confirm the rental's terms with its listing contact, including any agreed use of a shared yard.

A community garden and a cared-for waterway

The Town's Parks Commission page describes the Gateway Community Garden as a volunteer-led space with garden beds and an outdoor classroom. It also records conservation work by the Kelligrews Ecological Enhancement Program, known as KEEP. Parks Commission and community groups

These are ways to learn about the area and find community activities. If you want to volunteer or use a garden bed, check the group's current arrangements rather than assuming availability. For a rental with outdoor space, establish which beds, lawns or planted areas belong to the property and what care is agreed with the owner. A nearby community garden does not replace that discussion.

The Kelligrews Soiree and everyday journeys

The Kelligrews Soiree is the Town's annual summer festival, and its program reaches beyond Kelligrews. The Town's 2026 schedule included activities at Topsail Beach, Manuels River and other venues as well as the Garden Party associated with Sgt. Ned Nugent's Park. Use the current program for the event and venue you want, rather than treating the festival name as a single location. Town Soiree information and park information

For ordinary trips, compare the exact home with your workplace, shops and regular appointments. Check the route and parking at the times you expect to travel. For an owner preparing a listing, a verified destination and access point are more useful than an unsupported claim that everything is within walking distance.

Property questions beside parks and waterways

These are general viewing questions for the individual home: where does the yard end, which parking and storage areas are included, and how are shared entrances or outdoor areas used? If a property backs onto green space, confirm the boundary and any permitted access before describing that space as part of the rental.

For a home beside a waterway, ask about the building's drainage arrangements and any relevant maintenance history. Identify who should receive reports of a new issue. The neighbourhood's river setting does not establish the condition of a particular house, and a trail guide does not assess the lot.
