Conception Bay South

Upper Gullies community guide

Get to know Upper Gullies through its coastal setting, railway heritage, local landmarks and school information.

Avalon Peninsula
Newfoundland & Labrador

Upper Gullies combines a coastal setting with a history of farming, fishing and railway travel. The Town's community history board explains how river-cut gullies gave the area its name and how work and transport shaped its development. Those connections give the shoreline and former rail corridor a context beyond a place name on a map. Upper Gullies history board

Use the Conception Bay South overview to explore the wider town. The Lawrence Pond guide covers the distinct inland community; the two names should not be used interchangeably for a property address.

A coastal community with working and railway history

The Town's account describes farming and fishing as important nineteenth-century livelihoods, followed by work in the Bell Island mines. It also records the arrival of passenger rail service in 1882. That history helps explain the relationship between older settlement, the shore and the rail route, without describing the occupations or circumstances of residents today. Town community history

For a home search, use the history to understand the setting, then check the actual street and property. A neighbourhood with agricultural roots does not tell you the age of a house, the extent of its land or the uses permitted there.

Conception Bay Highway and the T'Railway

Conception Bay Highway and the former railway corridor are useful references for finding your way around Upper Gullies. The Town's current trails information describes the CBS T'Railway as a non-motorized route following the old Newfoundland Railway, with signed access points throughout the community. It offers a different kind of outing from a trip along the main road. Town trails information

The municipal street map can help you place a named road within the wider town. For a regular walk or cycle, locate the public trail entrance and try the connection from the home. Check current notices and signs for the section you intend to use; proximity to the corridor does not itself establish an entrance across adjoining land.

An owner describing a rental can name the verified connection rather than imply that every waterfront or trail-side property has the same access. A prospective tenant can compare the real route to an intended destination, including any main-road crossing, instead of relying on a broad 'near the trail' description.

Heritage landmarks and the school on Robert's Road South

Upper Gullies United Church Cemetery and St. Peter's Anglican Church and Cemetery at Hopewell are among the landmarks recorded on the Town's history board. They give the community's older streets additional context. Check visiting arrangements separately; inclusion in a heritage account is not an opening notice. Community history and heritage sites

Upper Gullies Elementary is at 30 Robert's Road South. Its current NLSchools profile lists kindergarten through Grade 6 and provides school and transportation links. Anyone comparing homes for a school journey should confirm assignment and busing for the exact address with NLSchools. The school's name alone does not establish eligibility or a particular bus arrangement. Upper Gullies Elementary profile

Describing an Upper Gullies rental clearly

As general property advice, distinguish the home's included space from the surrounding landscape. Set out the unit, parking and outdoor areas being offered, then explain the verified public connections. If a shore path, garden or adjoining land is part of the proposed arrangement, confirm it for the property before including it in the listing.

Our new-tenancy preparation guide covers the wider preparation of a home. Owners transferring an occupied rental can use the management-transfer guide to organize its existing records and arrangements.
