Galway has its own recreation landmarks within the broader Southlands-Galway area described by the City of St. John's. Village Green, the paved path network and The Shoppes at Galway are useful places to locate when comparing homes, but each serves a different purpose. Start with the actual address and the destinations you expect to use. City neighbourhood profiles
Village Green: the playground and the wider park plan
The City opened the first phase of Galway Village Green in September 2023. Its announcement describes a 6,500-square-foot playground, a multi-purpose court with basketball nets, a picnic area, paths and parking. The playground design includes rubber surfacing, play equipment with transfer access and a quiet retreat space, with physical, cognitive and sensory needs considered. The City's project page separately describes a splashpad, washrooms, community gardens and other amenities as future phases. Treat those as planned features unless a later City update confirms that the particular facility is open. A concept drawing is useful for understanding the intended park, but it is not an inventory of today's facilities. Village Green project information
If a particular play feature or approach matters to you, check the current facility information and visit the entrance you intend to use. Design features within the playground do not establish the suitability of every route from a nearby home.
Paved paths and the connection to Southlands
The City lists paved shared-use paths throughout the Galway development. Its route page is a useful starting point for checking a walk or cycle trip, alongside the streets and crossings between the home and the path. City shared-use paths
Connections beyond the existing network need a separate check. A May 2025 City application notice for 725 Southlands Boulevard described a future trail connection to Southlands with its exact location still to be determined. That notice is evidence of a proposed connection, not confirmation that a particular route has since opened. City planning notice
Southlands Community Centre and Teakwood Park are separate destinations from Village Green. The Southlands guide covers those facilities; use the intended destination and a verified route rather than treating the two neighbourhood names as interchangeable.
The Shoppes at Galway and Route 20
Metrobus's Fall/Winter schedule effective September 7, 2026 lists Route 20 between The Village Shopping Centre and The Shoppes at Galway, operating seven days a week. Its stop list identifies Danny Drive at Marshalls and, on the return journey, Danny Drive at the Costco gas station. Check the operator's current timetable and stop information for your travel day. Those are shopping-area stops. They do not establish a stop beside an individual rental or a direct bus to every destination. Try the whole journey from the home, including the approach to Danny Drive and any transfer, before relying on it for regular travel.
The development name and the individual property
The developer's community plan uses Galway for a development combining residential neighbourhoods, business space and The Shoppes at Galway. This broad description helps explain the different destinations under the Galway name; it should not replace an address check. The City's MapCentre lets readers look up individual addresses and municipal property information. Developer community plan and City maps
For a rental viewing, these are general property questions: identify the unit, its entrance and parking, and clarify which outdoor spaces are included. If a listing refers to landscaping, a green belt or future nearby amenities, ask what exists now and what the owner can verify for that lot. Development-wide marketing is not evidence of the features or municipal jurisdiction of every address advertised with the same area name.
Owners preparing a home can use the new-tenancy preparation guide. If management of an occupied rental is changing, the transfer guide covers the existing tenancy information to organize. The St. John's overview provides the wider city context.
Next steps for owners and tenants
Have a Galway rental property? Request a property assessment with its address, current occupancy and the help you need. Management availability and scope are confirmed for the individual property.
Prospective tenants can use our tenant resources for general renting information, then confirm a home's current details with its listing contact. This guide does not advertise a particular available rental.
