Mundy Pond's park and the H.G.R. Mews Community Centre on Blackler Avenue provide a useful starting point for exploring the neighbourhood. Indoor recreation, the pond trail and outdoor play spaces are gathered around this local landmark, while the St. John's Farmers' Market on Freshwater Road offers another reason to get to know the surrounding streets. When comparing homes, start with the address and the places you expect to use regularly. Our St. John's overview introduces the wider city and its other neighbourhood guides.
The Mews centre at 60 Blackler Avenue
The current H.G.R. Mews Community Centre opened on September 15, 2025. Its facilities include swimming pools, an indoor walking track, a gymnasium and convertible courts for squash, handball or racquetball. Use the current centre page and program calendar when planning a swim, class or court visit. A nearby home does not establish availability in a registered activity. H.G.R. Mews Community Centre
The indoor track and the outdoor pond trail offer different options. Check the activity's access arrangements and the route from the home, including where you enter the grounds. If older directions refer to the former centre, use the current Blackler Avenue address.
Mundy Pond Park and its outdoor spaces
Outside the centre, the City lists a dog park, softball field, skatepark and the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Playground, with access to the Mundy Pond trail. The grounds also include a community garden and orchard. These are public recreation references, rather than outdoor areas included with a neighbouring rental. Centre grounds and park amenities
For a viewing, follow the route to the park entrance or trail connection you would use. Check crossings and the return journey instead of assuming that a home described as 'by Mundy Pond' has direct access. Confirm a rental's pet arrangements separately from the presence of a dog park.
The City includes Mundy Pond among its winter-groomed trails, with schedules depending on weather and snow accumulation. Check conditions for your intended outing; grooming does not mean every park approach or private entrance has the same service. City trail information
The market on Freshwater Road
The St. John's Farmers' Market is at 245 Freshwater Road, in the former Metrobus depot. The market's own account describes local farmers, food vendors and artisans sharing the space. Check its current calendar and vendor information for the visit you have in mind, rather than assuming that a particular stall is always present. Farmers' Market location and story
A market visit and routine grocery shopping may involve different destinations and opening times. Compare the actual home with the shops and services you expect to use, and try the trip with the walking route, bus connection or parking arrangement that suits you.
Bus and cycling connections beyond the pond
Metrobus's current Route 12 information lists Mundy Pond, the Mews Centre, Ropewalk Lane, Avalon Mall and the Village Shopping Centre. Use the operator's current schedule and stop information to check the journey in both directions, including your return time. Metrobus Route 12
The City also identifies on-street bike lanes on Mundy Pond Road between Columbus Drive and Cashin Avenue/Campbell Avenue, and on Cashin Avenue Extension between Mundy Pond Road and Blackmarsh Road. These are specific street sections, rather than a promise of a continuous protected route to every destination. City cycling routes
For an owner preparing a listing, naming a verified stop or route section is more useful than an unsupported travel-time claim. Prospective tenants can check the connection from the unit's entrance, any road crossing and the final approach to their destination.
Existing places and plans for future change
In September 2026, the City released neighbourhood plans for Rennie's River and for Central and Mundy Pond. Its announcement described future directions for housing, mixed uses, parks and transport, with further provincial review and a public hearing identified as next steps. Treat the plans as a description of intended change, rather than evidence that a proposed shop, path or development is already in place. City neighbourhood-plan announcement
For the property itself, clarify included parking, storage and outdoor areas, shared access and any outstanding maintenance. A neighbourhood plan does not establish the condition, layout or approved use of an individual rental.
